Course Outline

Cur síos Tá An Roinn Oideachais agus Scileanna tar éis aitheantas a thabhairt do chúrsa TEG B2 go sásaíonn sé critéir iontrála do chúrsaí fochéime agus iarchéime san Oideachas Bunscolaíochta sna Colaistí Oideachais.  Ní gá don fhoghlaimeoir fásta nach raibh na riachtanais chuí aige/aici tabhairt faoin Ardteist Ardleibhéal sa Ghaeilge a thuilleadh.  Ina ionad sin, féadann sé/sí tabhairt faoi chúrsa atá dírithe ar an bhfoghlaimeoir fásta.

Ní hamháin go bhfeilfeadh an cúrsa seo do dhaoine ar mhaith leo bunmhúinteoireacht a dhéanamh ach d’éinne ar mhaith leis cáilíocht a bhfuil aitheantas idirnáisiúnta aici a bhaint amach sa Ghaeilge, nó d’éinne a bhfuil fonn orthu feabhas a chur ar a gcuid Gaeilge ar mhaithe le suim phearsanta amháin.  Moltar leibhéal B1 TEG (nó a chomhionann) a bhaint amach sula dtabharfaí faoi leibhéal B2 TEG.

Bainfear leas as cur chuige comhtháite sa seomra ranga ina mbeadh mic léinn in ann a gcuid scileanna éagsúla teanga a chleachtadh agus a fhorbairt go comhuaineach.  Bunófar an cúrsa ar shiollabas B2 de Theastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (Ollscoil na hÉireann, Má Nuad).  Ag deireadh an chúrsa beidh an rogha ag mic léinn scrúduithe a dhéanamh chun cáilíocht a bhaint amach atá aitheanta go hidirnáisiúnta nó d’fhéadfadh mic léinn an cúrsa seo a dhéanamh ar mhaithe le suim phearsanta agus gan na scrúduithe a dhéanamh.  Bronnfar teastas tinnrimh orthu siúd a fhreastalaíonn ar ar a laghad 80% de na ranganna.  Más mian le hiarrthóir tabhairt faoi scrúdú T.E.G. bheadh táille scrúdaithe i gceist anuas ar tháille an chúrsa thuas.  Ní mór staidéar neamhspleách a dhéanamh mar aon le freastal ar ranganna chun tabhairt faoi scrúduithe an leibhéil seo.

*Tabharfar laghdú 10% do dhaoine a rinne cúrsa TEG sa Choláiste cheana.  Tabharfar laghdú 15% do dhaoine a rinne an dá chúrsa TEG sa Choláiste.

Description The Department of Education and Skills has recently recognised the TEG B2 syllabus as satisfying the entry requirements for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Primary Education in the Colleges of Education.  An adult learner who has not previously met the appropriate requirements is no longer compelled to undertake the Higher Level Leaving Certificate Examination in Irish.  Alternatively, he/she can undertake a course aimed at adult learners.

This course will not only suit those who hope to progress to primary school teaching but also anyone who wishes to achieve an internationally recognised qualification in Irish, or indeed anyone who, out of personal interest, wants to improve their standard of Irish.  It is recommended that students undertake TEG B1 (or its equivalent) before progressing to TEG B2.

An integrated approach will be used in the classroom in which students will have an opportunity to practice and develop their various linguistic skills simultaneously.  NUI Maynooth’s Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (T.E.G.) B2 syllabus will form the foundation of this course.  At the end of the course students will have the option of taking examinations to achieve internationally acknowledged certification or may simply prefer to take these courses for reasons of personal interest and accomplishment and not sit the exams.  On completion of the course a certificate of attendance will be presented to those who have attended a minimum of 80% of classes.  There is a supplementary examination fee for those who choose to undertake T.E.G. examinations.  Students will need to engage in independent study if they wish to undertake examinations at this level.

*A reduction of 10% will be given to those who have previously completed a TEG course in St. Patricks College.  A reduction of 15% will be given to those who have completed both TEG courses in the College.
