New Writing Service provided at the Library

Feb 07, 2012

From February 2012, the library will provide a writing service for all students at St. Patrick’s College.

From February 2012, the library will provide a writing service for all students at St. Patrick’s College. The service aims to support students to become confident and effective writers. By helping students to improve their writing skills, we hope they will be equipped to achieve their full academic potential. The librarian will offer free, one-to-one tutorials to students to address any aspect of their writing.

Students are required to book a tutorial in advance. This can be done by calling to the library, emailing (alarkin@stpats.ie), or ringing (0504-20531).

One-to-one tutorials last for 50 minutes and can be booked for the following times:

Mon – Fri                      10am – 10.50am                        11.30am – 12.20pm

Important Points:

  • Students are asked to bring a corrected written assignment to the tutorial, if you have one. We cannot provide a printing service.
  • The Writing Service is not a proofreading or editing service. Rather, the librarian will teach you how to proofread and will work collaboratively with you to support you in your development as a writer.
  • After reading through your written assignment together, we will discuss your concerns about your writing and identify aspects of your work that could be improved.
  • We cannot help you if your assignment is due in less than two hours. You will need time to review your assignment, not just make a few quick changes and print it.
  • We cannot ensure a higher grade for your assignment. You do the learning with your lecturers and independently, the librarian will help you with your writing.
  • Come to the tutorials with lots of questions and a readiness to engage with the writing process.
  • All visits are confidential.
