Clubs and Societies
Sports, recreation and student societies are highly valued in St. Patrick's College. Numerous sports are catered for in the College including Gaelic football, hurling, handball, tennis and basketball. We also have a number of societies including a book club, film club and camera club. Students of the college also have a very active social committee and organise numerous social and recreational activities throughout the year. A public swimming pool and gymnasium are located adjacent to the campus and offer very cometitive rates to students.
GAA
In 2007 our ladies Gaelic football team were very proud to win the Donaghy Shield and in 2011 our men's hurling team were crowned All-Ireland champions when they won the Fergal Maher Trophy. In the same year they accomplished "a double" when they beat University College Dublin to capture the division 3 league title. St. Patrick's offers a GAA scholarship which aims to recognise GAA achievement and to facilitate further sporting development. The successful GAA scholar will receieve support in their sporting pursuits and a financial reward of €500. The scholarship is open to all incoming first year students studying on TH001 and TH004.
Student Book Club
A student book club meets in the College about twice a term to discuss a book that the group has all read. Books for discussion are agreed upon by members of the club. In a very relaxed, informal way the students and librarian discuss what we thought of the plot, the characters, what we like and disliked. At times we also discuss whether the book could be used as an educational tool. The book club is open to all students and we’d love to see new members join. If you’re interested please just come along, you’ll find a very warm welcome. Details of the meetings will be emailed to all students.
Film Club
There is a film club in St. Patrick’s and films are shown for free in the college every month. The films chosen deal broadly with the themes of Education, Religion and Business. They are, therefore, relevant to the students’ areas of study and will hopefully be challenging, entertaining and thought-provoking. Details of the films and screenings will be emailed to all students.
Camera Club
The college camera club is open to photographers of all abilities. The club meets every 3 weeks during lunch. Meetings are very informal and we display photographs we've taken since the last meeting, talk about future projects and plans. Other activities include having guest speakers and a chance to experience studio lighting setups. The group as a whole decides what will happen in the meetings and what the club will do for the year to come.
