Student Card
Your student card is your library card and you must have it to borrow items. Your library card is for your use only. You are responsible for all unreturned items.
FAQs
How do I know if the book I need is in the library?
Check the library catalogue, OPAC.
How do I find the book in the library?
The library is organised using the Dewey Decimal system so every book has a call number. When you find a book on OPAC, write down the call number. You can then go to the shelves to find the item.
How many items can I borrow and for how long?
Students can borrow up to three books at any one time. The length of time you can borrow the book for depends on whether it is a standard or restricted loan. The majority of books in the library are standard loan. These can be borrowed for up to two weeks. There are also restricted loan books (or 7 day loan) which can be kept for up to a week. There are also Reference items. They are high demand books which cannot be borrowed and are solely for use in the library.
What can I do if the book I need is out on loan?
You can place a reservation on an item that is out on loan if there are no other copies available. Once returned, the book will be held for you at the Issues Desk. We will email you to let you know that you can collect the item and it will be kept for you for two days.
External membership
Members of the general public may also become members of the library by taking out external annual membership. Annual membership costs €40 (there is a discount for alumni of the college). It enables members to access the library and to borrow two items for up to two weeks.

Borrowing Books
You must have your student card with you to borrow books. Students can borrow up to three items at the same time.
The library stock is divided into three different groups:
Standard loan books can be borrowed for two weeks.
Short term (restricted) loan items can be borrowed for one week.
The reference collection is a collection of high demand books that are for library use only.
Ask at the issues desk for more information.
Return your books by handing them in at the issues desk.
You can place a reservation on an item that is out on loan if there are no other copies available. Once the book is returned, you will receive an email from the library and the book will be held for you at the issues desk for two days.
Fines
If items are not returned by their due date they become overdue and fines must be paid.
Fines are charged to keep items in circulation and they apply to all library patrons.
Fines: 50cent per day per item.
If a library patron has fines of €5 or more, s/he may not borrow, reserve or renew items.
Lost Books
Once a book is issued to you, it is your responsibility. If you lose a book from the library, please inform a member of staff. We will give you lots of time to try and find the item but if you don't, you will have to cover the cost of a replacement copy of the book.
